The Polytechnic Institute of Porto (P.PORTO) is organising the P.PORTO Critical Thinking Day on 29 April 2026, from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. This initiative is aimed at students wishing to develop skills in analysis, argumentation and informed decision-making, which are essential in a context marked by complex challenges and the growing flow of information. The event, organised by the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CIP) at P.PORTO in partnership with CrithinkNet – the Portuguese Network for Critical Thinking will take place at the CIP at P.PORTO – P.PORTO Library Building, Rua Dr. Roberto Frias, 508.
Based on a practical and participatory approach, the programme invites students to engage in active learning activities, based on the analysis of scenarios inspired by real-life situations. Through these scenarios, participants will be challenged to question evidence, consider different perspectives and construct reasoned responses to contemporary problems.
During the morning and afternoon, students will work in teams on problem-solving, culminating in the final presentation of the proposals developed. The structure of the event prioritises collaborative work, guided discussion and the practical application of critical thinking tools, reinforcing their relevance to academic studies and future professional integration.
This initiative is in line with the mission of CrithinkNet – the Portuguese Network for Critical Thinking, which seeks to promote the systematic development of these skills in higher education, encouraging innovative teaching practices and the development of independent students who are capable of interpreting information rigorously, communicating effectively, and participating in society in a conscious and responsible manner. In this context, the commitment of higher education institutions to education for critical thinking is a strategic responsibility, contributing to the development of citizens and professionals prepared for volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous contexts.
Participation in the P.PORTO Critical Thinking Day is free of charge, subject to compulsory registration via an online form. Students are advised to bring a laptop or tablet to support the work to be carried out during the activities.
