The CIP of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto was featured at the 13th Meeting of Higher Education eLearning Institutions and Units (eL@IES 2025), which took place on 12 December 2025 at the University of Évora, under the theme ‘Pedagogical Training for Teaching in Higher Education with Artificial Intelligence’.

The event, organised jointly by LE@D of the Open University, the University of Évora and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, brought together the national academic community to reflect on the emerging challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence into pedagogical practices, teacher training and learning assessment.

The opening session featured a speech by Mário Cruz, Director of the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation at P.PORTO, who emphasised the importance of inter-institutional collaboration and the strategic role of pedagogical innovation centres in the transformation of higher education.

Throughout the programme, CIP-P.PORTO played an active role in various thematic panels. Ricardo Queirós (ESMAD, CIP-P.PORTO) participated in Panel II with the presentation ‘Level Up in the education of the future: the new alliance between humans and AI agents’, focusing on the potential of intelligent agents and gamification in learning in digital environments. On the same panel, Erika Ribeiro (CIP-P.PORTO) addressed creativity as a key competence in the teaching and learning process in contexts mediated by Artificial Intelligence.

Still in the field of technology-supported pedagogical innovation, Luís Coelho (ISEP-P.PORTO), a regular contributor to CIP at P.PORTO, presented the paper ‘NeuroGamification: when the chatbot knows you're offline’, exploring innovative approaches to interaction and monitoring student engagement in digital environments.

The involvement of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto also extended to the moderation of sessions, with Daniela Mascarenhas (ESE, CIP-P.PORTO) moderating Panel II, reinforcing the contribution of the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation in stimulating scientific and pedagogical debate.

The meeting was also marked by the announcement that eL@IES 2026 will take place at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, with P.PORTO taking on the role of host for the next edition of this nationally renowned event in the field of eLearning and pedagogical innovation in higher education.

With this participation and the organisation of the next edition, the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation at P.PORTO reinforces its position as a central agent in the promotion of innovative pedagogical practices, teacher training and the critical and responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence in higher education.
