Promoted by P.PORTO's Centre for Pedagogical Innovation (CIP) and INOV-Norte (Centre of Excellence for Pedagogical Innovation in the Northern Region), the 3rd edition of P.PIC had the motto ‘Teaching skills, emerging technologies and curricula of the future: charting paths for pedagogical and curricular innovation’.
With P.PIC'25 having received more than 120 papers on the subject, from various parts of the country and internationally, which were divided into four thematic axes - teaching competences, emerging technologies in education, pedagogical and curricular innovation, and assessment and inclusion - giving rise to various sessions in the Flash Communications and Symposium categories, this edition of P.PIC had more than 400 registrations and the presence of 324 participants over these two days. This international conference also featured plenary lectures by Laura Loder-Büchel from the Zurich University of Teacher Education, Alejandro Quintás from the University of Zaragoza and Goreti Marreiros from ISEP-P.PORTO, who addressed the topics of teaching competences, scientifically and philosophically based curricular innovation and generative artificial intelligence in the context of higher education.
At a time when concern for pedagogical innovation is becoming a national issue, namely with the creation of the National Council for Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education (CNIPES), as part of the PRR, P.PIC'25 was also attended by the INOV-Norte consortium, which includes P. PORTO, as well as U.P., UTAD, IPB and ESEP. PORTO, as well as U.PORTO, UCP, UTAD, IPB and ESEP, which aims to promote the decentralisation of innovation and pedagogical modernisation initiatives in Portuguese Higher Education, as well as Patrícia Rosado Pinto, president of CNIPES.
This academic year's candidate projects and teachers were also presented for the annual incentives promoted by P.PORTO's CIP, Pratica+ and Promove+, which aim to promote Pedagogical Innovation practices in P.PORTO schools. The big winner of this year's Promove+ prize, worth €5,000, was the project ‘In the name of Nature’, presented by a group of teachers from creative areas at various P.PORTO schools: Filipe Lopes (ESE-P.PORTO), Poliksena Hardalova (ESE-P.PORTO), João Leal (ESMAD-P.PORTO) and Rodrigo Malvar (ESMAE-P.PORTO).
There was also room for two cultural moments that punctuated this conference with some humour, such as ‘The Evils of Natural Intelligence’, by Nuno Meireles, a lecturer at ESMAE, and a performance that closed and summed up the two days of P.PIC'25, in a scenic and musical game by Poliksena Hardalova and Sónia Barbosa with TESE - a theatre group and students from the Music Education degree.
The fourth edition of P.PIC has already been announced for next year, but no date has been confirmed.
