The Centre for Pedagogical Innovation at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto is hosting a Flash Seminar entitled “Theatre of the Oppressed: Inclusive Practices on Stage” on 27 May, from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm, led by Poliksena Hardalova.

As part of PlurALL – Roadshow for Well-being, Accessibility and Inclusion, this initiative offers an experiential approach to inclusion and pedagogical reflection, using the Theatre of the Oppressed methodology created by Augusto Boal.

PlurALL is a programme developed by the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation at P.PORTO, dedicated to promoting academic wellbeing, inclusion and accessibility in higher education, based on the principle that academic excellence and social justice go hand in hand, through a preventive, participatory and evidence-based approach, aimed at strengthening a sense of belonging, equity and the quality of the academic experience.

Using role-play exercises, guided dialogue and collective construction, the seminar will invite participants to explore real challenges within the educational context and to experiment with different possibilities for action in the classroom. The session aims to promote more inclusive, participatory and sustainable teaching practices, encouraging empathy, active listening and critical reflection on teaching.

By transforming the spectator into a “spect-actor”, the Theatre of the Oppressed encourages active participation and the joint search for responses to situations of oppression, exclusion or conflict experienced in everyday educational life.

During the session, the fundamental principles of this theatrical methodology applied to education will be explored, including techniques such as image theatre and forum theatre, as well as collaborative strategies for pedagogical intervention in different educational, social and community contexts.

The initiative is aimed at teachers in higher education and other levels of education, teacher training students and anyone interested in creative and participatory methodologies geared towards inclusion and social transformation.

Participation is free of charge, subject to compulsory registration and subject to venue capacity, which can be done at plurall.cip.ipp.pt.
